David Loring and Dayton Colie grew up sailing together on Lake Murray in Irmo,
S.C. They won the Y-Flyer Junior National Championships in 1991.
David Loring has gone on to win the Laser North Americans. He has also won
the Sunfish World Championships - Twice! David is generally regarded as one of
the best small boat sailors in the world.
Dayton Colie bought a Sunfish after David won his second World Championship in
the Fall of 2006. The Sunfish was an obvious choice due to its cost, competitive
local fleet, fun factor, and of course, beach to bar time. He has raced other boats
for most of his life, but never owned a Sunfish. He called David for help (who
better than a two time world champ?) and they made this video.

Update: Monday March 17th - Dave came in 2nd at Midwinters. My finish was not
nearly as good. I think the next video will include starting technique - mine needs
a lot of work. A quick shout out to Zane, Brian, Lee, Chip, Tony, and Greg for
making the nightlife awesome. - and congrats to Hank for winning. If you're not
racing at a national level, you don't know what you're missing - these guys are fun!

| June 8 - 2008 - David Wins every race he sails in at the Hobcaw Regatta - with his seven year old daughter on board! He missed one race because it was hot and she needed a break. Start Them Young! David sails Hobcaw with his daughter Emily June 15 - 2008 - Dave defeats everyone at the James Island Yacht Club regatta in his Sunfish. He was originally going to race his new Laser, but noticed that the Sunfish regatta included three previous members of the U.S. Sailing Team. Dayton placed a respectable fourth. July 1 - 2008 - Dayton Colie is beginning work on a documentary about his quest to race in the Sunfish Worlds in 2009 - it's called "Chasing Silver" |
